FMB community food catering app

Overview

The Challenge

FMB organises community meals and catering events, but coordination was running on group chats, spreadsheets, and phone calls. As the community grew, RSVPs became unreliable, delivery logistics were chaotic, and organisers had no central tool to manage headcounts, menus, or drivers.

Two people, four months, both iOS and Android — with real-time updates and push notifications. Budget was tight, so the architecture needed to be cost-efficient at a few hundred users without sacrificing reliability or speed.

Solution

What We Built

Angular + Capacitor for native iOS and Android from a single codebase. NodeJS microservices on serverless functions behind API Gateway, with MongoDB for the document-oriented data model covering events, menus, RSVPs, and delivery routes. Serverless keeps costs near zero during quiet periods and scales automatically when RSVPs spike after an event announcement.

Members browse events, RSVP, and specify dietary requirements from a clean mobile interface. Organisers get a dashboard for menu planning, real-time headcount tracking, and delivery coordination. Push notifications keep the community informed across iOS and Android.
